Africa Movie Academy Awards held its nominees party recently, tagged the Nominees Night 2012. The
spectacular venue was the Kamaira Beach Hotel, Banjul, Gambia. The choice of Gambia to host the pre-awards is not farfetched, the organizers sought to explore other African countries in the motherland to host the who-is-who in Africa's movies industry at a gathering that preludes the main awards itself. The pre-awards ceremony turned out to be very successful.
"Adesuwa", a Nigerian movie, produced by the award winning producer
Lancelot Imasuen racked in 10 nominations, the highest
by any country. While Nigeria got a total of 52 nominations, the nearest country
to her,
South Africa got the 2nd highest nominations with a total of 45 nominations. Ghana got 17 nominations, followed by Kenya 14, Uganda had 5 & Tanzania got 3. There were other nominations from the Diaspora as African filmmakers in the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Guadalupe, Italy and Jamaica sent in their productions.
In all, there were a total of 328 entries from across the continent, 108 more entries than that of the previous year-2011. There were 43 entries from Africans in the Diaspora and all the other entries shared between 23 countries from across Africa. The entries include 134 feature films, 88 short films, 57 documentaries and 6 animations.
The main event is set for April 22, 2012, and it would be at the Eko Hotel and Suites spectacular hall, and the day's host would be Hollywood actor- Jimmy Jean Louis- he is the former model turned actor from Haiti, many would remember him as Dr. Tunde Jonathan, in Phat Girlz.
