Nneka, Multi Award Winning Singer Appointed Arts Ambassador


Nigerian-German singer Nneka Egbuna has been appointed Ambassador for the Arts by the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF).  The announcement was made by AWDF's Interim CEO, Theo Sowa on feb.16,2012 at an event held in accra ghana as part of its 10th anniversary and
to welcome the musician and activist as AWDF's Ambassador for the Arts. Speaking on her role as AWDF’s Ambassador for the Arts, Nneka stated, “

‘I feel good; I feel it is another way to get my message out there. It compliments my music and the consciousness within my music. It is a way to share my music and empower people, empower women and empower the youth. My songs raise awareness about issues that the African Women’s Development Fund also addresses, so it’s a good partnership’

The singer is getting set to take her musical offerings to American fans with live performances of her songs at Gramercy Theatre, New York on March 27, 2012. Nneka on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, released a new video for her single ‘Shining star’ (featuring Black Thought of The Roots), off her upcoming album, ‘Soul heavy’. Our home girl seems to have a lot of good things going for her huh.. Congrats 

Nneka has worked with international acts like Nas, Talib Kweli, and Damien Marley.

AWDF was founded 11 years ago by three inspirational women – Hilda Tadria, Joanna Foster and Bisi Adeleye Fayemi, who was also AWDF’s founding Executive Director until last year.
